Indonesia's economy is booming.

By 2030, Indonesia could be the 7th largest economy in the world, overtaking Germany and the UK.

But how long will the boom last?

Fifteen years ago, the Indonesian economy crashed.

The CIA reportedly wanted Indonesia's President Suharto toppled.

In May 1998, gangsters were brought into Jakarta to burn and rape and murder. Soldiers were disguised as students. Helicopters directed the looters. The CIA chief had visited Jakarta shortly before the riots.

TB, typhoid, cholera, and AIDS are problems in the Jakarta slums.

What about the slums in Jakarta?

In 2007, the Indonesian government said it would build 1,000 apartment towers for poor slum dwellers by 2011.

But five years later, only about 100 of the towers have been built.

And, the towers are occupied mainly by the rich, as the poor have not been able to get bank loans.

Indonesia is the 4th largest country in the world in terms of population.

"It ranks above India and Brazil in terms of macroeconomic stability, it has a rapidly growing middle class, creating a strong domestic market, and it has an abundance of natural resources including oil and gas, coal, tin, gold and crude palm oil."

"Indonesia has low levels of government debt-to-GDP that the indebted West could only dream of (2011: 26.0 per cent), a robust financial system (the loan/deposit ratio for the main banks is 78.8 per cent, one of the lowest levels in the emerging world), and a young, urbanising population (the world’s fourth largest population of young people, according to the World Bank)."

Did the CIA blow up Bali?

An Associated Press analysis shows the number of 'terrorist' strikes within Indonesia has gone up, "especially since 2010, when radical imams called on their followers to focus on domestic targets..."

Decade after Bali, Indonesian terror aims at gov't

In 2002, 'terrorist' attacks at two Bali nightclubs killed more than 200 people, mostly foreign tourists.

The CIA is suspected of having been behind the Bali attacks.

He told the AP he was involved in two 2001 bombings at churches in eastern Jakarta that injured more than 70 worshippers.

These church bombings have been linked to American-trained elements of the Indonesian military.

Most Indonesians practice a very moderate style of Islam.

But the Saudis, friends of the CIA, have been pouring money into Indonesia to promote militant Islam.
